The Mountain Lodge at Hólaskógur was completely renovated in the summer of 2021. Encompassing 286 square meters with sleeping bag accommodation for up to 40 guests, this two-story outpost is open all year round and boasts excellent cooking facilities on both floors.
The lodge is near Háifossvegur (nr. 332), which connects to Þjórsárdalsvegur (nr. 32) six kilometers from Háifoss—the fourth largest waterfall in Iceland. Ideally situated in close proximity to Sprengisandur, Landmannalaugar, and Þjórsárdalur’s marquee attractions—Gjáin and Stöng—the lodge is an exceptional base camp for highland adventures.
During the high season, a housekeeper maintains the premises.
Each level features a lounge, a dining room, a fully equipped kitchen, a dishwasher, refrigerator, tableware, restrooms, showers, bedside lamps, and electrical outlets. A welcoming refuge for highland explorers, the lodge also has a wraparound veranda and a spacious lawn suitable for tents, campers, and motorhomes.
Divided into two levels, the lodge is composed of multi-person rooms with bunk beds for sleeping bags. Each level accommodates 20 guests.
The lodge has long been an outpost for horse-riding tours, as the destination is at the crossroads of key highland travel routes.
Our facilities include horse fencing, saddle storage, and other relevant equipment. We also sell hay.
Groups can either book the whole lodge or rent an individual floor.
